Topic 2- IT and ICT

Salam

Most of people cannot differentiate between IT and ICT. therefore, this topic may give them more understanding. IT refers to information technology. However, ICT refers to information communication and technology. These two concepts are similar to each other. Nonetheless, ICT is more specific and focus on communication such as networks, internet, cell phones, and other communication devices. Moreover, IT is a term that used to any form of technology used to create, store, exchange, and use information such as multimedia and office equipment such as fax machine. In addition, IT has two basic concepts. The first concept is information technology architecture which provides a map or a plan of the information in an organization. The second concept is information technology infrastructure that contains the physical facilities, IT components, IT personnel, and IT services. IT components include computer hardware, software, and communication technologies. IT personnel are people or individual work with information technology at information system. IT services are services provided for people or customer such as security management. In this topic I learnt several types of information system that we will study in this course such as transaction processing system (TPS), decision support system (DSS), expert support system (ESS), management information system (MIS), and office automation system (OAS).

In this topic the lecturer divided us in several groups and asked us to prepare presentations about IT and ICT. My group's topic was IT and ICT in AiU. Other groups presented about IT and ICT in banking, health, education and some other topics which related to IT and ICT. So, you can read my group presentation which I uploaded it here to learn more with us.

From all the topics I understood that IT and ICT is used for every day live. Therefore, it is very important for us to use and learn IT. For example, people use IT in education such as E-learning, and equipment for computer laps. People also use IT in banking such as automatic teller machine, E-banking, and smart cards. In addition, people use IT in business such as email, and E-business.

In this topic, the lecturer taught us how to make a reference in Microsoft Word by using APA style. Therefore, I think that will help in my study. So, you can observe the activity that my lecturer gave us in the tutorial class to let us practice it.
