The fifth week

During the fifth week I have studied Windows Operating system (OS). I have learnt that Microsoft released a number of Windows operating systems ranging from Windows xx, NT, Server from 1985 till now. Windows is proprietary software, which means that Microsoft has placed restrictions on how people can use or copy the software. The latest operating system is Windows 8. However, in this course I have learnt about Windows 7.  Therefore, I learnt the aim of windows 7 such as Decrease Start Up and Shutdown times by 20 seconds, Go to Sleep and Resume faster, up less Memory, Pop up Search results faster, Reconnect to your Wireless Network more quickly, and Recognize USB devices faster. I also learnt the enhancements of Windows 7 from vista/XP which are New Taskbar and System Tray, Quick Desktop View button, Improved Start Up, Sleep and Resume performance, Improved power management saves memory and battery life, Libraries to improve file access and organization, Action Center for system maintenance, back ups, troubleshooting and more, User Account customization of notifications, Improved back up, New wallpapers and themes, Improved Gadgets, New premium games include Chess Titans, Mahjong Titans and Inkball, Advanced Calculator functions including saving history, Improved networking via HomeGroups, Passkey protection with networks, Device Stage for recognizing USB devices faster, and Windows Mail replaced by Windows Live. Then I learnt the improvements from Windows XP only which are New Start Icon, Aero (Snap, Shake and Peek), Desktop icons like( “Computer” and “My Documents” )are removed and accessed through the Start Menu,  Larger icons and hidden icons in the Taskbar , Quick Launch toolbar has been replaced by pinning a program to the Taskbar, Jump Lists for easier access, A Search Bar in the Start Up Menu, The "Run" command is accessed through the Start Menu's Search Bar, Faster and smoother gaming components, Parental Controls for monitoring computer use, and update feature that eliminates web surfing for patches. Windows 7 is a Graphical User Interface (GUI) and the main elements in Windows 7 are Aero view, Taskbar, Search, Libraries, and Gadgets. so, I have learnt all these features. However, to use Windows 7 in a computer needs some requirements which are, 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor, 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit), 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit), DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver. Finally, I have learnt about Special Folders are folders which are presented to the user through an interface as an abstract concept, instead of an absolute folder path.  Windows has some special folders such as application data, history, and desktop directory. I also learnt about system tools folder, disk cleaner, disk defragmenter, and system restore.
